Yesterday
A devastating, haunting day for human rights in America. Here are some photos I took while protesting between Washington Square Park and East 51st & Park yesterday.
I’m always interested in what posters people choose to make for protests — in NYC, there’s no shortage of creativity when it comes to public dissent. Yesterday, I vacillated between finding the sea of posters deeply depressing (what good can art do in a corrupt state like this; are we really making light of this situation; ugh some of these posters are coming across in a really neolib TERF-like manner or are just straight up cringe; etc.) and also being genuinely moved that people were finding ways to communally cope (maybe making art, shutting down traffic, and screaming in the streets really are the best forms of solace we have in a corrupt state like this). Here’s a representative selection of some of those posters, presented without comment.
What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now. If we don’t get it?
