AUTHOR’S NOTE: It’s my 11th year living in New York City, and I’ve been trying to listen to the world around me more often; riding the bus and taking cars and walking around sans music or podcasts. The following is a found poem curated from overheard fragments — fragments found in radio advertisements I’ve heard in Ubers, people’s conversations on the street, etc. Any grammatical errors included are intentional, as I’ve recorded these fragments exactly as I heard them.

You’ve delivered me from the rain. Why are you following so many people that aren’t following you? That’s shocking! Listen, I’m telling you I am not a drug addict. If you want to stop, that’s on you. Y’all don’t love each other, I get it. I have this very nascent, sort of like, disdain for dogs. Why are you being nasty? I’m not sure where it came from.
