I worked in somewhat of a reverse order with my consumption of Cline’s oeuvre, beginning with “Daddy” and “The Guest” and working backwards to this debut novel. Both “The Girls” and “The Guest” suffered from the same thing, in my opinion: extremely strong character and setting building, but minimal and thin plot to bolster those characters and settings. Perhaps this is why I like “Daddy” the best of these three works — it is a book of short stories, and Cline’s listless and vaguely nihilistic plots don’t start to feel old.Valentine’s Day was amazing.Rick took me to Place Des Fêtes, which had an immaculate menu of Valentine’s Day specials — including these belle du jour oysters dressed with passionfruit and habanero, and this delicious crab and green bergamot dish paired with house-made brioche.Sal and I encountered these geese on a long walk from Crown Heights to Fort Greene Park and back. These ducks are us personified.Rick and I went to Tannersville in the Catskills last weekend. The antique stores there were incredible. We also went skiing at Hunter Mountain, which was amazing and invigorating. Here’s one photo from the bottom of the mountain, and another from the top. Can’t go wrong with a post-skiing jacuzzi moment!Cheers to the month of love <3
